We hope this brief summer newsletter can be a helpful place to find news about H3A-related activities and to stay connected with H3A friends and colleagues.
As we have been finding, virtual conversations using Zoom, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Skype can be great tools. The H3A website, WhatsApp groups, and Facebook groups continue to share the spirit of H3A. Slowly, cautiously, some small groups have been meeting in person.
GÜMÜŞLÜK MUSIC FESTIVAL AND JAK KOHEN ART EXHIBITION
The 17th International Gümüşlük Music Festival opened this week. H3A is delighted that it includes the H3A Photo Exhibit honoring Jak Kohen that was prepared this spring but only able to be shown virtually before this. The Official Opening for the exhibit is Saturday, 29 August at 18:30 at the Kumda Festival Center on the left side of the Gümüşlük Beach. Everyone is invited to attend.
ONGOING CINEMA PRESENTATIONS
This Sunday the Cinema-Dizi group invites interested H3A members to take part in another special Zoom presentation in Turkish by Prof. Dr. Semiramis Yağcıoğlu. Sunday 23 August the film to be discussed at 21:00 is Beasts of No Nation, the 2015 American-Ghanaian war drama film written, co-produced, and directed by Cary Joji Fugunaga, based on the book by Uzodinma İveala. Film available on Netflix or www.filmmodu.org.

We hope that in the future English-speakers will be able to participate in an English-language presentation by Prof. Dr. Semiramis Yağcıoğlu on another film.
NEW ACTIVITIES
The first sessions of the new Digital Art Group have been very well received.
Other group leaders are exploring options for the fall, which should include ongoing and new activities well suited to these changing times. We will keep you posted.
The first H3A Zoom Training on 20 July was a great success. Those attending learned more about how to sign onto the ZOOM platform, as well as got the chance to convene a ZOOM meeting themselves. Followups to come.
NEXT H3A BOARD MEETING AND UPCOMING AGM
The H3A Board will meet next on Friday 4 September to discuss programs going forward and to plan the date and time of the October AGM. Please contact Vivian vkohen@superonline.comif you have concerns or suggestions.
