In this presentation, the discovery of the first cosmetic products—fragrant substances—by humanity will be discussed, along with how cosmetic products were gradually used. Perfume and cosmetic products will be explored in the contexts of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Cyprus, Crete (Minoan), Mycenaean/Achaean, Ancient Greece, Persia, Lydia, and the Roman periods. Additionally, there will be a brief discussion on the use of cosmetics, raw materials used, cosmetic containers, and the global trade of cosmetic products.
